Patriarch John IV Kalecas proved he also was a friend of Latin Orthdoxy by establishing the Monks as an autocephalous community. This, along with other pro west activities forced him from the Patriarchal Throne. The Monks that went to Europe became known as the Athonite Benedictine Fathers or Latin Orthodox Benedictine.
